Breastfeeding reduces the risk of asthma. We have some evidence that breastfeeding protects against asthma. Well, some studies say yes. Some say maybe, some say no. But most experts think it does. Let’s say it has a small benefit. But now word comes that eating fast food at least once a week reduced this protective benefit in a group of Canadian children.
Weird, eh? Why would McDonalds or its greasy counterparts have anything at all to do with asthma?
Researcher Anita Kozyrskyj, the lead researcher and an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics in the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, suggests the high fat and salt content made the kid’s lungs, well, twitchier.
Okay, but I have to question if there’s something else going on here. Are there other differences between kids who eat fast food and those who don’t? How are their lifestyles different?
