Kids and Cholesterol: Pass The Statins, Please

So now we’re wondering if kids should take drugs to reduce their cholesterol levels. Tara Parker-Pope takes a wack at the controversey in a conversation on her health blog and in an article in the Science section of Tuesday’s paper. Can’t wait for research on the issue, though of course, the sample size will be very small. After all, how many kids would be candidates for statins? Haven’t seen any estimates in the news, but it’s got to be a very limited set of children with high LDL, a family history of heart disease, and two other risk factors (e.g., diabetes. Which means interpreting any results will be challenging.
