The latest entry in the autism controversey…A large-scale study conducted by the CDC did not find a link between early exposure to mercury (in the form of the preservative thimerosal used in vaccines) and neurological problems in 7 to 10 year olds. It will be published this week in The New England Journal of Medicine. The study did not address autism although one in progress should yield results in another year. Maybe then we’ll turn away from the mercury-autism hypothesis and start focusing research dollars and efforts towards uncovering other factors underlying this complex and often devastating disorder.
